The Show
The musical that El Querandí Dinner Tango Show presents every night, titled “Nuestro Tango” (Our Tango), is performed by a cast of fourteen artists: an acoustic quartet (violin, piano, bandoneon, and double bass), four pairs of dancers, and two singers.
“Nuestro Tango” invites you on a passionate journey through the history of tango, evoking its different stages: Origins (1900), Immigrants and Arrabales (1920), Carlos Gardel, the tango song (1930), Dance Halls and Milongas (1940), Modernism, Astor Piazzolla (1955).
A show that revives the essence of the most traditional tango show in Buenos Aires in all its forms: music, singing, dance, and emotion.
Immigrants and the Slums (Arrabal)
The Popular Expansion: Tango refines itself and conquers the neighborhoods. The incorporation of the bandoneon becomes definitive, giving it its characteristic melancholic sound.
Lyrics begin to tell the stories of immigrants and the codes of the slums, full of nostalgia and cunning (picardía).
Gardel, the Tango Song (Tango Canción)
Tango Sings: The voice of the Zorzal Criollo (Criollo Thrush), Carlos Gardel, elevates tango to a global phenomenon. The dance takes a back seat, and the focus shifts to the lyrics.
Tango consolidates itself as a song of love, heartbreak, and popular philosophy.
Modernism, Astor Piazzolla
Rupture and Evolution: Led by Astor Piazzolla, tango transforms into concert music. It breaks with the traditional format, incorporating elements of jazz and classical music.
Tango begins to reflect (se sienta a pensar), opening the path towards Tango Nuevo and the avant-garde.
